I've been investigating an issue with importing questions into LimeSurvey. I have encountered the following problems:

ArchiveImport Scenario

In the LTS version, the "archiveimport" option is only used in the XML survey import. In version 5.x, it is also used in the import of groups and questions.

Does it make sense to have it in the group and question import?
If here are duplicates question codes, why to allow them?

Import Question - Checkboxes

Also, on the import question, I don't understand why there is a checkbox for each import option, but only the "auto rename" one is used.

Import Question - Translate Links

I think everything is very mixed. The "translate links" option is for converting links that become outdated, but it is not clear why it is related to importing questions.

Remote Control - Import Question

On the block of code:

  • If question is to be imported with the original code, autorename is off
    Should that be like that? Why? What is the Criteria?

  • If qustion is to be imported with a new code, the code checks if there are duplicated.
    If so, it fails gracefully.
    If not, autorename is on.
    Should that be like that? Why? What is the Criteria?

Suggestions

  • To disable automatic renaming of questions with invalid codes, there must be a specific checkbox for this.
    When enabled, the questions will be renamed.
    When disabled, the import shall fail.

  • In no case should duplicates be allowed to be generated.

  • Review the Import Question on the RemoteControl. (related to previous suggestion)
    When no autorenaming and duplicates found, the import shall fail

ArchiveImport Scenario

Does it make sense to have it in the group and question import?

If here are duplicates question codes, why to allow them?

If allow import (except for archive) : why we don't allow in on GUI …

Import Question

I think everything is very mixed. The "translate links" option is for converting links that become outdated, but it is not clear why it is related to importing questions.

To disable automatic renaming of questions with invalid codes, there must be a specific checkbox for this.

We must have a big red warning because it can break all Expression script logic system

In no case should duplicates be allowed to be generated.

Allow same code is only for importing LSA.
If importing structure only, I would just not allow same code at all.

If we allow on LSQ : OK, must be to import old survey.

But if we allow same code in Import lsq (or lsg) : why we don't allow same code when adding question ?

I know the reason… i think we don't have to allow it in import lsq too … (and lsg)

When i 1st create issue it's just «lsq didn't fix question code» but it seems someone decide to allow it … i'm not this person.
