Below I marked some posts that I just did, to get rid of these spam messages in the preview, by creating a newer post so the spam messages get substituted.

Could it be that only you (as a moderator) see these spam messages as latest topics?
Did you check while also being not logged in?

What would the forum software make only me see it?
I mean jelo upped the bug heat from 2 to 8, so I guess he also sees them.
What happens is that the get deleted from the actually forum, but the preview stays until there is a new post in the forum.

So what I did was posting in the subforum, and then obviously there is another post as the latest and they disappear. I mean the latest post in a forum is the same for me as for anyone else, isn't it?

I checked in an incognito window and the Chinese forum post from my screenshot doesn't show anymore. But this is very common for me to see and I thought I'd just say something about it.

And it is not only when I mark the posts as spam, but also when others mark them as spam and I have never actually seen them before, I think.

In anyway, I think this needs some investigation.

The described issue is there since years. I personally got used to it. Looks like the index page query is cached and a deleted topic is not vanishing till a certain amount of time.

@Jelo: This, this behavior is old, I thought I got used to it, but finally I got annoyed enough to make a bug report. ;-)

It makes you only see it because you are a moderator and still can see deleted message (they are only soft-deleted).
Same for holch.
That's why I am asking if you tried to see it while being logged out or being logged in with another 'normal' user.
I am pretty sure that normal registered users don't see it.
Next time you have to ban someone, please check it.

The cached messages are shown in the index even when I'm not logged in at all.
Anonymous mode in the browser and looking at the index.
Clicking on the topic leads to an error (as expected, cause it is already removed).

Couldn't it be that the SPAM button is only hiding the posts first (I remember you explained the routine once) and the hiding is not a status, which the index/recent posts displaying routine can handle. They will show the hidden post in the listings.
