I am using an Ubuntu 16.04 Server and installed Apache 2 with LimeSurvey. I am using a mssql Server for storing my data. The installation worked fine and without problems. When I create a new survey and try to type mutated vowels (in german called "Umlaute") like ä, ö, ü and try to save the survey, it gets saved as Chinese chars. For Example a "ä" is saved as ꓃ or a "ö" is saved as 뛃. When I try to insert the chars manual via the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, using a query all works fine. I can also save the chars using freetds directly on the LimeSurvey Server. I already tryed to set the default char set for Apache and freetds to utf-8 but nothing changed. It seems so that there is a problem caused by LimeSurvey while saving the data in the database. Also when I create a new Survey the default E-Mail Message for participants is completly converted to chinese. First line of the e-mail: 뿫ꦺꛪꪋꛮꮪꯪ몪껨ꪯ뫮ꪪ믪ꪢꫪ꺫껮.
