IMHO, translating ON/OFF is a nonsense.

eg : in French, a 'correct' translation would give super large words : 'allumé/éteint', in spanish 'ENCENDIDO/APAGADO' and I guess it would be the same in many languages.

Everybody understand ON/OFF, it's conventional in technologies. TV, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, etc. use the words ON/OFF in every languages for their buttons. When they don't use the words 'ON/OFF' they use symbols : circle/bar (0/I). But you'll never see on the ignition button of a television large words such as 'ENCENDIDO/APAGADO'

So, if you really think it's making problems, we can replace ON/OFF by circle/bar ( 0/1), which is another international convention for ON/OFF. But allowing large words like 'ALLUMÉ ÉTEINT' or 'ENCENDIDO APAGADO' in a switch button is not possible.
