1. unable to delete used template
2. unable to delete template with child

And when you reset a theme : it reset all survey theme option too … think must just add new options (with inherit). But it's another things.

@c_schmitz, while updating plugins works like a charm, theme updates are still a PITA and currently can only be done by updating theme files using FTP. As tested by @assoman at https://bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=13250#c52484, raising the version number and uploading an updated theme ZIP leads to an error.
The issue exists for years (see this report by @DenisChenu https://bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=8426). Now that I have seen many great fixes of older issues at 7.x, I was hoping that maybe you can look into this issue as well since @ollehar will probably not take this challenge :-)

With the update from 6.x to 7.x we usually add a new theme option for showing/hiding the new "required" text tag to our 7.x themes which means editing 2-3 theme files.
Furthermore, there are updates to the core custom.css file to improve some layout details and sometimes custom code at custom.js needs to be addressed as well.
Of course, the theme's config.xml gets updated as well.

When not being able to access theme files using FTP, such updates are quite a hassle and at production system can also cause issues with the defualt theme being unassigned accidentally.

So I am pretty sure that there are many users who will love to see an update feature for themes similar to plugins, see e.g. https://forums.limesurvey.org/forum/design-issues/127031-how-to-update-the-theme-without-resetting and https://forums.limesurvey.org/forum/design-issues/122666-how-do-i-switch-a-theme-without-affecting-active-surveys.

Hello there, actually I gave up to this. My deployment process now recreates each time the container with the updated code for plugins and themes. Because of this, I'm barely interested on online theme editing, our scenarios meets the use of only one personalised theme for all surveys.
I guess the problem with deleting and recreating a theme are its child coming from online theme editor. in 13250 I was suggesting a naming convention for themes like ThemeName_V.v where V was the version. I don't really know if it's an issue or was accurate. 5 years passed since then.

PS : even when updating via FTP : if you update something in config.xml : you need to reset ALL surveys theme options.
