But, when survey is activated, and when the question is shown elsewhere, the sentence is in french.

When no language is set, em uses english as a default language.

At first I could not reproduce the problem, BUT:
Weird things happen if I use the attached survey, e.g. if I try to select another language in group preview, I'm redirected to my Limesurvey root page. If I then open the group preview another time, I see the French survey texts but English error messages, see attached screenshot.

Using question preview, the correct error message language is used at firstv tests.

Question is why there is a language switch at group preview while you have to select a language for question preview prior to opening the preview page?!?

Thomas, can you please have a look at this? IMHO there should be no mandatory messages at all in group preview (Question preview is already fixed) but behave like a user entered a question page for the first time - and I have no clue who to fix this best.

Question preview has always been different from viewing the question in question-at-a-time survey mode. However, that means it can be hard to keep the two code bases in sync.

My preference would be to have question preview be exactly the same as viewing the question in question-at-a-time mode, with this one exception:
(1) Ignores relevance - so always shown (otherwise, if it is conditionally relevant, you may never see it

Another possible exceptions include things like disabling mandatory, but I think that should be kept on so that you see the red asterix, but one should not see the "This question is mandatory" message (which just means setting proper values for the $_SESSION['step'] and $_SESSION['prev_step'] variables.
